The Attorney General’s Office has said it hopes the newly launched 'Engumakee Baareh’ campaign aims to build legally aware society” campaign will help build a society that is more legally aware.
The legal awareness campaign was launched on Friday at the initiative of the Attorney General’s Office. Providing information to PSM News, the Office said the programme aims to improve public understanding of the law and build a society that is aware of the rights and responsibilities granted under the law.
The Attorney General’s Office said greater legal awareness helps people clearly understand the powers and rights available to them under the law, empowering citizens in the process.
The campaign is being carried out under the Accountability and Integrity Matters (AIM) Project, funded by the European Union (EU). It is currently scheduled to run for one year, although the Attorney General’s Office said it could continue beyond that if additional funding becomes available.
The Office said the campaign aims to reach as many people as possible, with a strong focus on social media and other media platforms. Information will also be provided through videos and mobile outreach.
The campaign, carried out in collaboration with UNDP Maldives, is expected to make legal information more easily accessible to the public. The Attorney General’s Office said information will be disseminated through media and social media platforms to improve public understanding of the law.
The programme also aims to clearly explain the rights and responsibilities of every citizen and enable people to make informed and confident decisions in different aspects of their lives.
As part of the campaign, activities will be conducted across the islands to provide information directly to the public. Various activities targeting school students in different parts of the country are also planned.
The Attorney General’s Office said these activities will help explain important legal information relevant to everyday life in a simple and accessible manner.
Raising public awareness to strengthen confidence in the legal system and uphold the rule of law is among the key priorities of the Attorney General’s Office.
