President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has waived import duty and processing fees for some items utilised in the health sector and additional items on high demand amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
Maldives Customs Service (MCS) stated the president has decided to waive the import duty and processing fee imposed on protective equipment such as goggles, protective gowns, coveralls, hazmat suits, surgeon caps, and shoe covers.
Article 8 of Export-Import Act of the Maldives states the president shall have the discretion, in the case of a special circumstance, to waive payment of import duty, or part of it, for items imported for the general benefit of the public, or for the general benefit of the people on an island of the Maldives.
Meanwhile, the president previously waived import duty and processing fees hand sanitiser, masks, face shield, hand wash, gloves and disinfectants due to high demand amid the outbreak.
