Maldives has requested support from Turkey in overcoming the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid made the request during a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
During the telephone conversation, Minister Shahid briefed Minister Çavuşoğlu on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives and the measures implemented to curb the spread of the virus. Minister Shahid also highlighted the economic and financial aspects of the pandemic and requested the support of the Turkish government to overcome the impending challenges.
Minister Çavuşoğlu thanked Minister Shahid for the telephone call and firmly supported the efforts and measures of the Maldives to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Both foreign ministers further agreed the ongoing global health situation could only be normalised through collaborative efforts by the international community.
