State Trading Organisation (STO) has procured additional medical supplies needed to control the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
In a tweet, STO said medical supplies purchased by the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) were procured on a chartered flight of the national airline, Maldivian. STO said the supplies include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other essential supplies.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated the supplies were not part of the aid pledged by the government of China. The foreign ministry said the aid from China is expected to arrive later this week.
Several countries have been assisting the efforts of the Maldives in fighting COVID-19. As such, India, Bangladesh, China, and the US have provided aid to the Maldives amid the pandemic.
