COVID-19 cases in the Maldives rises to 618

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 618.

HPA said 212 Maldivians and 406 foreigners, including 324 Bangladeshis and 54 Indians have tested positive for COVID-19. In total, 596 individuals are undergoing treatment, including 6 individuals who are undergoing treatment at the DH11 facility at Dharumavantha Hospital. Another 2 foreigners are being treated abroad after contracting the disease while in the Maldives.

Maldives has recorded two deaths from COVID-19 so far, including an 83-year old Maldivian woman and a 33-year old Bangladeshi man. Meanwhile, a total of 20 individuals have made a full recovery from COVID-19 in the Maldives.

HPA said there are 1,790 individuals in quarantine facilities and 555 individuals in isolation facilities. HPA also revealed 9,863 samples have been taken, with 8,813 samples testing negative and 477 samples pending results.

HPA has extended the State of Public Health Emergency declared in the Maldives until May 31 and has also extended the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region until May 14.
