COVID-19 cases in the Maldives rises to 648

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 648.

HPA said 216 Maldivians and 430 foreigners, including 346 Bangladeshis and 57 Indians have tested positive for COVID-19. In total, 623 individuals are undergoing treatment, including 5 individuals who are undergoing treatment at the DH11 facility at Dharumavantha Hospital. Another 2 foreigners are being treated abroad after contracting the disease while in the Maldives.

Maldives has recorded three deaths from COVID-19 so far, including an 83-year-old Maldivian woman, an 88-year-old Maldivian man, and a 33-year-old Bangladeshi man. A total of 20 individuals have made a full recovery from COVID-19 in the Maldives.

HPA said there are 1,774 individuals in quarantine facilities and 533 individuals in isolation facilities. HPA also revealed 10,811 samples have been taken, with 9,633 samples testing negative and 536 samples pending results.

HPA has extended the State of Public Health Emergency declared in the Maldives until May 31 and has also extended the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region until May 14.
