5 police officers test positive for COVID-19

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has revealed five police officers have tested positive for COVID-19.

The home minister stated police personnel are highly exposed to the situation since Maldives Police Service (MPS) is crucial to ensure basic necessities provided during the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region. He acknowledged the tremendous service of police personnel working in the frontlines amid the pandemic.

Highlighting the risk their job possesses, the home minister said 5 police personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 and 170 police personnel have been quarantined. He said having to quarantine and isolate many police personnel is a challenge to providing their services.

Furthermore, Home Minister Imran revealed arrangements have been made for people working in the frontlines to avoid them from going home to their families, as it is risky. In this regard, he noted standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines have been compiled detailing the scope of work of police personnel during the pandemic.
