National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has urged the public to heed caution and maintain micro-clusters as the government prepares to relax current restrictions gradually.
Speaking at the daily press briefing held at the NEOC, Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said it is of utmost importance not to be complacent and take important precautionary measures as the lockdown is eased. In this regard, he advised the public to maintain a limited number of contacts to ensure a transmission is mitigated to the extent possible.
NEOC has also instructed the public to wear face masks when going outside for essential purposes. NEOC said if surgical masks are unavailable, cloth masks can be washed and reused to ensure everyone takes individual responsibility to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Measures taken by the NEOC also include requiring businesses to only allow people wearing face marks and limiting the number of customers into a shop.
The government has announced its decision to relax the lockdown in phases if the current measures prove to be effective in curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
