84% of COVID-19 patients under the age of 18 fully recover in the Maldives

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed 84% of COVID-19 patients under the age of 18 in the Maldives have fully recovered.

The latest statistics published by NEOC revealed 112 of the 133 COVID-19 patients under the age of 18 in the Maldives have fully recovered, representing a recovery rate of 84% for the age group. This includes 62 males and 50 females.

Recovered COVID-19 patients include 50 children between the age of 6 and 12, as well as 43 children between the age of 13 and 18. Meanwhile, 19 children below the age of 5 have fully recovered from COVID-19 in the Maldives.

The youngest COVID-19 patient in the Maldives is an 11-day old baby who tested positive on May 29. The baby has not been reported to have recovered yet.

Meanwhile, NEOC has confirmed that a new disease has been detected in the Maldives which affects children who contracted COVID-19. The Multi-system Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) is a serious condition which causes inflammation of different body parts and organs. Although the disease can be serious, most children diagnosed with the condition have reportedly gotten better with medical care.

NEOC has urged parents to pay special attention to the safety and well-being of children, as the country lifts restrictions imposed due to COVID-19.
