The government has begun operating all COVID-19 management facilities established across the Maldives.
The government has begun operating seven COVID-19 facilities established in various regions of the country, following the inauguration of COVID-19 management facilities in Addu City, Fuvahmulah city and Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll. The facilities were inaugurated at a virtual ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen said efforts to contain COVID-19 cannot be eased, adding all relevant stakeholders are working to completely contain COVID-19 in the Maldives. The health minister called on all individuals to embrace the new normal guidelines to follow precautionary measures. He also urged all individuals to refrain from travelling from one place to another during the national and religious holidays.
The government has developed COVID-19 management facilities in Ihavandhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Fonadhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Eydhafushi in Baa Atoll, Gan in Laamu Atoll, Villingili in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Fuvahmulah and Addu City. Ministry of Health revealed the regions to develop the facilities were selected focusing on the scope of reach of the surrounding islands.
The health ministry said each facility consists of at least 20 ICU beds and 30 isolation beds. The ministry stated testing arrangements and ventilators have been made available and healthcare professionals were trained before opening the facilities for the public.
The government launched efforts to establish treatment facilities across the country as part of efforts to minimise the dependency on the capital, Male' City, for COVID-19 treatment.
