Ministry of Tourism has revealed 61 resorts have resumed operations upon reopening of the Maldivian borders on July 15.
Statistics from the tourism ministry indicates 32 resorts were opened on July 15, immediately upon reopening of the borders which had been closed since March 27 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ministry revealed a further 29 resorts have resumed services since, bringing the total number of resorts currently in operation in the Maldives to 61.
While the government has permitted resorts and liveaboards to resume operations, hotels and guest houses have not been permitted to resume services yet. However, Maagiri Hotel in Male' City and Hulhule' Island Hotel (HIH) have been permitted to operate as transit hotels.
The government aims to record 850,000 tourist arrivals by the end of the year. The tourism ministry and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) have been undertaking efforts to promote the Maldives as a safe destination for tourists.
