Additional 10,000 PCR test kits to be brought to the Maldives

Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has revealed an additional 10,000 PCR test kits will be brought to Maldives within the coming week.

Speaking at a press briefing, Spokesperson of HEOC Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said only 15,000 PCR test kits are in the stock, adding that efforts are underway to procure more test kits. Dr. Nazla said existing test kits can be used for the next two weeks without any disruptions as about 200 tests can be done on a single test kit.

In Greater Male’ area, PCR testing facilities are established in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), ADK Hospital and Laboratory of Maldives Police Service. PCR tests are also conducted in Addu Equatorial Hospital and Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.

So far, 99,300 samples have been taken to test for COVID-19 in the Maldives. The country has recorded over 6,000 COVID-19 cases.
