Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed another Maldivian has passed away from COVID-19.
HPA said the last death recorded was that of an 82-year-old Maldivian male, admitted in Hulhumale’ Medical Facility. Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) later revealed the man who passed away was Lieutenant Colonel Retired Abdul Ghani, a veteran officer who had served the military for over 48 years. Following his death, Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi sent condolences to the family of the deceased veteran officer, acknowledging his many services to the country over a long period of time.
This is the 25th COVID-19 death recorded in the Maldives. So far, 19 Maldivians and 6 expatriates have passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives.
The Maldives has detected 6,370 COVID-19 cases since March 7. Currently, there are 2,430 active cases in the country, including 161 patients who have been hospitalised.
