Number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives surpasses projections

The number of COVID-19 cases recorded in the Maldives has surpassed the latest projections made in July.

According to the projections made by Public Health Expert Dr. Sheena Moosa last month, the Maldives was expected to record 2,373 positive cases during August. However, the country has recorded a total of 2,577 cases in August thus far, indicating the actual situation is even worse than the projections. The number of cases reported daily is above 100 and the number of locals testing positive for the virus is on the rise.

The Maldives experienced a second wave of COVID-19 cases following the ease of restrictions in Male’ City. The country has so far recorded a total of 6,370 cases, including 2,430 active cases. 25 people have died from COVID-19 in the Maldives.
