Maldives has recorded close to 200 COVID-19 positive cases on a single day.
Statistics published by Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed 194 cases of COVID-19 were recorded from 1800 hours of August 20 to 1800 hours of August 21. It includes 167 locals, 16 Bangladeshi nationals, 7 Indian nationals, a Sri Lankan national, a Nepali national, a Thailand national and an Italian national. HPA said out of the 194 cases, 191 cases were detected from Greater Male’ region and 3 were from the atolls. With the latest cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 6,564.
Meanwhile, number of COVID-19 cases recorded during the month of August has now surpassed the projections made last month. According to the projections made by Public Health Expert Dr. Sheena Moosa last month, the Maldives was expected to record 2,373 positive cases during August. However, 2,771 cases have already been reported this month. The number of cases reported daily is regularly above 100 and the number of locals testing positive for the virus is on the rise.
