62% of COVID-19 hospital beds in Greater Male’ Region occupied

Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has revealed 62% of the hospital beds allocated for COVID-19 in Greater Male’ Region is now occupied.

Spokesperson of HEOC Dr. Nazla Rafeeq shared the progression of hospital bed occupancy in the capital, which showed the occupancy has reached Alert Level 2. The spokesperson noted the maximum number of admissions recorded last week was 145. She expressed it is very important that the whole country works together to protect high-risk individuals who may not be able to survive COVID-19.

Due to the surge of COVID-19 cases and hospital admissions in the Greater Male’ Region, Health Protection Agency (HPA) has enforced further movement restrictions in the capital. In this regard, a vehicle ban has been imposed from 2000hrs to 0500hrs, while a curfew has been imposed from 2200hrs to 0500hrs. Maldives Police Service (MPS) has warned action will be taken against individuals who breach the curfew or vehicle ban.
