Purpose of vehicle ban is to limit social movements of young people: HPA

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated the purpose of imposing a vehicle ban from 2000hrs to 0500hrs is to restrict social movements of young people.

HPA stated the spread of COVID-19 is most prominent among young people aged between 20 and 40. HPA stated the vehicle ban was imposed to limit the movement of young people, who are the most socially active after 2000hrs.

HPA further stated new control measures are being introduced based on weekly reviews of the COVID-19 situation in the Maldives. The agency warned the restrictions will be increased in the coming weeks if the situation keeps worsening.

HPA has called for public support in controlling the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives. In this regard, the agency has appealed for cooperation in implementing the movement restrictions and curfew imposed in the Greater Male’ Region. The agency has also instructed the public to limit social movement and contacts, and to practice proper hand hygiene at all times in order to mitigate the spread of the virus.
