COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives rises to 27

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed another individual has passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives.

HPA said the latest death recorded was that of a 79-year-old Maldivian male, taken to ER of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). This is the 27th COVID-19 death recorded in the Maldives.

The first COVID-19 death was recorded in the Maldives on April 29. So far, 20 Maldivians and 7 expatriates have passed away from COVID-19 in Maldives.

The Maldives has detected 6,779 COVID-19 cases since March 7. Currently, there are 2,531 active cases in the country, including 162 patients who have been hospitalised. 11 COVID-19 patients are currently being treated in ICU, including 8 patients who have been put on ventilators.
