Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom has tested positive for COVID-19.
The former president announced via a tweet on August 25 that he had tested positive for COVID-19. In his tweet, he prayed for a speedy recovery and good health for all individuals who have contracted the disease.
Former President Maumoon, 82, had also sought treatment earlier this year for a prolonged illness. He was admitted in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to conduct some tests.
Maumoon served as the President of the Maldives from November 11, 1978 to November 11, 2008. He is still active in the politics as the leader of Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), one of coalition partners of the current administration.
