COVID-19 cases in the Maldives exceed 7,000

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 7,047.

According to statistics of HPA, 135 new cases were reported from 1800 hours of August 24 to 1800 hours of August 25, including 109 locals, 15 Bangladeshi nationals, 8 Indian nationals, 2 Egyptian nationals and a Nepali national. HPA said out of the 135 cases, 126 cases were detected from Greater Male’ region and 9 were from the atolls.

The latest cases reported in the Maldives has taken the total number of cases to 7,047, including 2,581 active cases, 4,439 recoveries and 28 deaths. Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) 173 COVID-19 patients are currently admitted in hospitals, including 9 patients admitted in ICU of which 5 patients are on ventilators.

Statistics from the HPA indicate 32 islands and 10 resorts currently have active COVID-19 cases.
