COVID-19 cases in the Maldives exceed 8,500

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 8,584.

According to statistics of HPA, 98 new cases were reported from 1800 hours of September 5 to 1800 hours of September 6, including 72 locals, 12 Bangladeshi nationals, 4 Indian nationals, 5 Chinese nationals, 2 Nepali nationals and one each from Italy, Spain and Brazil. HPA said out of the 98 cases, 87 cases were detected from Greater Male’ region and 11 were from the atolls.

The latest cases reported in the Maldives has taken the total number of cases to 8,584 including 2,613 active cases, 5,936 recoveries and 29 deaths. Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) said 147 COVID-19 patients are currently admitted in hospitals.

Statistics from the HPA indicate 35 islands and 22 resorts currently have active COVID-19 cases.
