Speaking in a programme aired on PSM news, Spokesperson of HEOC Dr. Fathmath Nazla Rafeeq said authorities have commenced collecting random samples from across the country to determine the severity of the spread of the virus across the atolls. She revealed islands from which random samples were collected include islands with active cases, adding efforts are now underway to collect samples from other islands as well.

Several individuals undergoing home quarantine in islands after returning from Male’ City have been testing positive for COVID-19. Currently, 35 islands and 22 resorts contain active cases of COVID-19.

The government has developed COVID-19 facilities in five regions across the Maldives to prepare for a spread of the virus to islands.
