The leading Russian airline, Aeroflot, has announced plans to resume weekly flights to the Maldives.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said the airline has scheduled to resume operations on September 11. MACL said the airline is resuming its operations to the Maldives after a suspension due to COVID-19 pandemic.
A brief press release by Aeroflot revealed the airline has scheduled two services per week between Moscow and Male’, with arrival flights scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays and return scheduled for Fridays and Sundays.
Russia is the 4th most important market to the Maldives based on figures from January 2020. In 2019, the Russian market showed a 17.5% growth in arrivals to the Maldives.
The resumed flights from Russia will boost effort of Maldives to revive the tourism-dependent economy after the reopening of its international borders on July 15. Since reopening borders, 423 tourists have arrived from Russia.
