Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun laying asphalt on the roads of Dhuvaafaru, Raa Atoll.
MTCC said works on the Dhuvaafaru road development project are ongoing, with overall 77% of the project completed. MTCC said the asphalt component of the project is now underway.
Under phase 2 of the project, asphalt will be laid on a road area of 25,513 square metres, while an area of 6,813 square metres will be paved. The project also includes installation of a stormwater drainage system and cable junction boxes. MTCC said the stormwater drainage system was designed with emphasis on infiltration rather than pumping, in order to ensure the freshwater lens of the island is replenished.
The total cost of the project is USD 2.45 million. The project is scheduled to be completed within 300 days.
