Ministry of Finance has revealed the state received USD 337,700 as Green Tax during August.
As per the statistics, the amount is a 92.7% decline when compared to the USD 4.67 million received in August 2019. Revenue from Green Tax has declined this year due to the suspension of tourist arrivals amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The amount collected as Green Tax in August includes USD 279,260 from resorts and USD 58,440 from guesthouses, hotels and liveaboards. The statistics show the biggest contribution to Green Tax was made from Kaafu Atoll, apart from the capital.
Green Tax is payable by tourists who stay in resorts, hotels, liveaboards and guest houses. Green Tax is payable at the rate of USD 6 per day of stay from resorts, hotels and liveaboards, and USD 3 per day of stay from guesthouses. Maldivians and resident permit holders are not required to pay Green Tax.
