62 MNDF officers test positive for COVID-19 in Gan

Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has revealed a total of 62 officers of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) who travelled to Gan, Laamu Atoll for a training programme have tested positive for COVID-19.

A total of 93 MNDF personnel had travelled to Gan on September 19 for the training programme and were undergoing quarantine at a camp site located away from residential areas. HEOC revealed 58 officers tested positive for COVID-19 from the exit samples taken at the end of the quarantine period on October 9, while another 4 officers tested positive this week.

Gan Hospital stated it is providing medical assistance for the MNDF personnel that tested positive for COVID-19. As such, the hospital said individuals needing medical assistance have been brought to the hospital for treatment. However, the hospital said no patients have been admitted in the COVID-19 medical facility established in the island.

Meanwhile, MNDF said further measures have been taken to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the campsite. In this regard, MNDF said symptomatic and non-symptomatic individuals have been separated in the campsite.
