International airlines Flydubai and Lufthansa have resumed flight operations to the Maldives.
The UAE-based low cost airline Flydubai commenced operations to the Maldives on October 27. The airline has scheduled 4 weekly flights between Dubai International Airport and Velana International Airport (VIA), with flights to be operated every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Flydubai had earlier operated to Maldives from 2013 to 2018. The airline said popular demand among travelers is its reason for resuming the route this year.
Meanwhile, German airline Lufthansa resumed flight operations to the Maldives on October 28. The airline has scheduled two flights per week between Male’ and Frankfurt, Germany. The flights will be operated every Sunday and Wednesday.
Lufthansa suspended its operations to the Maldives earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline resumed its operations to the Maldives earlier than the initially announced date of resumption, having announced earlier that it would resume operations in 2021.
With the resumption of flights from Flydubai and Lufthansa, the number of international flights which have resumed operations to the Maldives since the country reopened its borders is now 14. Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom announced at least 18 international airlines would operate to the Maldives by the end of November.
