HPA lifts monitoring situation on Ungoofaaru

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has lifted the monitoring situation in Ungoofaaru in Raa Atoll.

Ungoofaaru was placed under monitoring on October 26, upon detection of a COVID-19 case in the island. However, the second sample of the individual tested negative. Therefore, following consideration and deliberations, HPA lifted the monitoring situation in the island.

Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of HEOC, Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq said the island is currently not in monitoring as all samples collected under the active surveillance procedure resulted negative. During the press conference, Dr. Nazla urged the public to follow the guidelines to avoid the spread of the virus and to pay extra caution when travelling between islands for essential uses.

As per the statistics of HPA, there are currently 800 active cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives, including 55 patients admitted in medical facilities for treatment. A total of 11,659 cases have been reported in the Maldives since COVID-19 was first detected in the country on March 7.
