Rossiya Airlines of Russia has decided to commence scheduled flights to the Maldives.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) stated Rossiya will start its direct flights from Moscow to Velana International Airport (VIA) on November 14. MACL stated the airline will conduct one flight weekly and would operate until March 27, 2021. MACL added the airline will be using a B747-400 aircraft for its operations to the Maldives.
Rossiya is an airline based in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It is part of the Aeroflot Group, and is one of the largest air carriers in Russia.
Rossiya’s decision to commence direct flights to the Maldives has come following an increased demand for the Maldives among Russian tourists. Russia has been among the main contributors of tourists to the Maldives since the country reopened its borders on July 15.
