COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives rises to 45

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed a 72-year-old Maldivian male has passed away from COVID-19.

HPA said the male was taken to the Emergency Response (ER) of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in unresponsive state and was declared dead at 1836hours of November 16. HPA said COVID-19 test was done on the deceased as per the protocol, and the result came as positive.

This is the 45th COVID-19 death recorded in the Maldives, and the fourth death in three days. So far, 37 Maldivians and 8 expatriates have passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives.

As per the statistics of HPA, there are currently 947 active cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives, including 59 patients admitted in medical facilities for treatment. A total of 12,314 cases have been reported in the Maldives since COVID-19 was first detected in the country on March 7.
