HPA permits sporting events and special functions

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has permitted sporting events and special functions to be held in accordance to HPA guidelines.

HPA stated sporting events and special functions or ceremonies will be allowed in the Greater Male’ Region starting from December 20. HPA said such events or functions must be held with adherence to the health and safety guidelines in place to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

HPA has been easing some of the restrictions imposed in the Maldives due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, HPA has also lifted the restriction on gatherings of more than 15 people, effective from December 20.

However, HPA stated some of the movement restrictions have not yet been lifted. As such, HPA noted the curfew set in the Male’ Region from 12:00 a.m to 04:00 a.m will remain in place until further notice. The agency also noted face masks will remain mandatory in public places, while individuals travelling from Male’ Region to other islands are still required to undergo quarantine.

HPA has recently shortened the 14-day quarantine period for travelers to 10 days. Meanwhile, locals and foreign workers returning from abroad are not required to undergo quarantine if they present a negative PCR test conducted within 96 hours before arrival.
