Qatar Airways has extended the duration of the safe travel bubble established between the Maldives and Qatar.
Qatar Airways had originally established a safe travel bubble with the Maldives from December 1 until January 7. However, the airline has decided to extend the duration of the safe travel bubble until January 31, due to high demand among tourists.
The safe travel bubble was introduced by Qatar Airways for citizens and residents of Qatar who wish to travel to the Maldives. Tourists who travel under the bubble are required to test for COVID-19 before departure and undergo another rapid PCR test upon return. Those who test negative from this PCR test will not be required to undergo quarantine.
Qatar Airways has stated the Maldives is an important market for the airline. Qatar Airways was the first international airline to resume operations to the Maldives when the country reopened borders on July 15, more than three months after borders were closed due to COVID-19.
