MTCC to develop Thinadhoo Regional Port

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to develop the regional port of Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

The contract was signed on December 22 during a special ceremony held in Thinadhoo. The contract was signed by CEO of MTCC Adam Azim and the CEO of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) Shahid Ali.

Speaking at the ceremony, MPL CEO Shahid Ali said the contract signed on December 22 includes the first component of the development. He noted the first component includes dredging 45,000 cubic metres, concreting an area of 3,000 square metres and installing a drainage system. He added the second component, which includes construction of an administrative building and a 5,000 square-feet warehouse, will also be contracted to MTCC within the next two weeks.

Speaking further, Shahid said MPL will begin seeking staff for the Thinadhoo regional port very soon. He said the people of Thinadoo and Huvadhu Atoll will be prioritised in selecting staff.

Speaking at the ceremony, MTCC CEO Adam Azim said the company targets to complete the first component of the project within a very short period of time. In this regard, he revealed the company aims to complete the first component within 45 days.

With the establishment of the regional port, services of Maldives Customs Service and Maldives Immigration and MPL will be launched in Thinadhoo.
