Male’ City Mayor Sifa Mohamed has stated over 8,000 new parking spaces have been created in Male’ City over the last two years.
Speaking on the issue of congestion in Male’ City, Mayor Sifa noted increasing parking spaces in Male’ is an important pledge of the current administration. The mayor noted important efforts have been undertaken by Male’ City Council in coordination with the government to establish more parking spaces in the city. She said over 8,000 new parking spaces have been created in the last two years, while efforts are ongoing to develop parking buildings across the city.
As part of efforts to increase parking spaces in the city, the government and the city council have developed several empty plots as parking zones. Meanwhile, Maldives Police Service (MPS) has also conducted a programme to remove old and damaged vehicles from the streets as part of efforts to reduce vehicular congestion in Male’.
Furthermore, authorities have also been working on identifying the optimal locations for parking buildings in Male’. Development of two such parking buildings have been included in the State Budget for 2021.
