COVID-19 recoveries exceed 13,000 in the Maldives

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the total number of COVID-19 recoveries the Maldives has topped 13,000.

As per the latest statistics of HPA, 12 cases were reported from the Greater Male’ Region on December 24, while another 9 cases were reported from the atolls and resorts on the same day. Meanwhile, 28 new recoveries were reported on December 24.

With the latest update of cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives have risen to 13,558, including 13,011 recoveries.
There are a total of 499 active cases in the Maldives right now, including 37 patients requiring hospitalization.

A total of 48 people have passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives, including 40 Maldivians and 8 expatriates. The last death was reported on December 11.

HPA has been gradually easing some of the COVID-19 restrictions imposed in the Maldives, following a decrease in the positivity rate and the number of unlinked cases. As such, HPA has shortened the travelers’ quarantine period from 14 days to 10 days, while also allowing locals and foreign workers returning from abroad to skip quarantine if they bring a negative PCR test, conducted within 96 hours before arrival.

HPA has also lifted the curfew in the Male’ Region, and the ban on gatherings of more than 15 people. Parties, special ceremonies and sporting events have also been permitted, on the condition of adhering to HPA guidelines.
