Maldives records 49th COVID-19 death

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed a 60-year-old Maldivian male has passed away from COVID-19.

HPA said the male passed away at approximately 02:00 a.m. on January 7, while undergoing treatment at DH11 Facility of Dharumavantha Hospital. It was revealed the man who passed away was Retired Justice Mujuthaz Fahumee, who had served as a Supreme Court judge from 2008 to 2010. He had tested positive for COVID-19 while undergoing home quarantine in Laamu Atoll.

This is the 49th COVID-19 death recorded in the Maldives. So far, 41 Maldivians and 8 expatriates have passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives.

As per the statistics of HPA, there are currently 693 active cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives, including 40 patients admitted in medical facilities for treatment. A total of 13,967 cases have been reported in the Maldives since COVID-19 was first detected in the country on March 7 last year.
