Chief of Defence Force tests positive for COVID-19

Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal has tested positive for COVID-19.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) confirmed its chief tested positive for COVID-19 after developing symptoms. MNDF said he is currently at home isolation and contacts have been asked to quarantine. MNDF assured Major General Shamaal did not attend any public gatherings or travelled abroad within the duration.

The total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has surpassed 14,000.
