Maldives has reported 50 new cases of COVID-19 on January 15.
As per the latest statistics of Health Protection Agency (HPA), 50 new cases were detected between 1800hrs on January 14 and 1800hrs on January 15. This includes 27 cases from the Greater Male’ Region, along with 16 cases from inhabited islands in the atolls and 7 cases from operational resorts. Meanwhile, 11 new recoveries were also reported on January 15.
With the latest update in cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has risen to 14,375. This includes 845 active cases, 13,474 recoveries and 49 deaths. There are currently 61 COVID-19 patients undergoing treatment at hospitals or medical facilities.
COVID-19 cases have started to increase in recent weeks, with some resorts and inhabited islands reporting outbreaks. As such, more than 50 cases have been identified from the cluster formed in Dhevvadhoo, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, while several more cases have also been identified from clusters formed in Biyadhoo Island Resort and Sun Siyam Olhuveli Beach and Spa Resort. Another cluster was formed in Male’ after several people who attended a wedding at SHE Building tested positive for COVID-19 in late December.
