Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed another 106 new COVID-19 cases in the Maldives on January 28, taking the number of active cases above 1,400.
As per the latest statistics of HPA, 106 new cases were detected in the Maldives between 1800hrs on January 27 and 1800hrs on January 28. This includes 93 cases from the Greater Male’ Region, 4 cases from inhabited islands in atolls, 8 cases from operational resorts and one case from safaris. This was the fifth consecutive day that the Maldives reported over 100 new cases.
With the latest update, the total number of cases reported in the Maldives has risen to 15,496, including 1,410 active cases. There are currently 116 COVID-19 patients undergoing treatment in hospitals or medical facilities. A total of 51 people have passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives, including 43 locals and 8 expatriates.
COVID-19 cases have increased significantly in the Maldives in January. HEOC has requested the public to take more precautions against the spread of COVID-19, and minimise contact with people to reduce chances of transmission. HEOC has also requested the public to test for COVID-19 without delay if showing symptoms.
