316 guesthouses resume operations in the Maldives

Ministry of Tourism has revealed 316 guesthouses have resumed operations in the Maldives.

The tourism ministry began permitting guesthouses in the atolls to resume operations in October last year, 212 days after guesthouse operations were suspended due to COVID-19. Guesthouses in the Male’ Region were permitted to reopen in December.

As per the latest statistics of the tourism ministry, 316 of the 591 registered guesthouses in the Maldives have resumed operations as of January 28. This includes 44 guesthouses in the Male’ Region, representing a bed capacity of 1,244 beds in the capital.

Meanwhile, 272 guesthouses in 46 islands across 15 atolls have resumed operations since October 15. This includes guesthouses in the northernmost region of the Maldives, Haa Alifu Atoll, to the southernmost region, Addu City.

All tourist facilities are permitted to reopen upon submitting a Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) prepared in accordance to the guidelines of the Ministry of Tourism and Health Protection Agency (HPA).
