FSM to use new vessel for fuel transportation

Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) is set to use a new fuel tanker to transport fuel across the Maldives.

Speaking to PSM News, FSM Managing Director Mohamed Qasam said the ship Alihuras, which had previously been used for State Trading Organisation (STO)’s cargo operations, was handed over to FSM last December. Qasam said the ship has been converted to a fuel tanker after installing the necessary facilities for fuel transportation, and is currently being loaded for its maiden voyage. He added this is the largest fuel tanker in FSM’s fleet, with a storage capacity of 8.5 million litres. He said the plan is to move the vessel to the southern atolls, which have the highest margin and expenditure for fuel transportation.

FSM currently has five mother vessels, including Alihuras. The company also has 18 barges to supply fuel to islands.
