All hospitals begin COVID-19 vaccination

All hospitals in the Maldives have officially commenced COVID-19 vaccination.

COVID-19 vaccination commenced in the Maldives on February 1. Vaccination first began in six hospitals in the Male’ area, and the regional hospitals established in Addu and Kulhudhuffushi. However, HEOC has stated all hospitals across the Maldives will administer the COVID-19 vaccine starting from February 3.

Due to the health emergency situation in the Maldives, vaccines will be administered on an appointment basis. Vaccines will be administered to individuals who register at the myhealth.mv portal for vaccination. Registration is required for individuals receiving the vaccine in order to gather their health records and to prevent large gatherings of people for vaccination.

HEOC said vaccines will be given to individuals who do not have any COVID-19 symptoms. Individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 can also receive the vaccine if they have recovered from the disease.

The first round of the vaccination in the Maldives will see the rollout of 100,000 doses of Covishield vaccine, which is prepared using the same formula as the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine. Two shots of the vaccine are required to complete the dosage, with 4 weeks required between the two shots.
