Over 70,000 people vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Maldives

Health Protection Agency (HPA) reveals over 70,000 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Maldives.

HPA revealed 5,283 people were administered the COVID-19 vaccine on February 20. This includes 3,755 people in the Male’ area and 1,528 people in the atolls. Since the beginning of the vaccination programme on February 1, a total of 70,009 people have been vaccinated including 53,669 people in the Male’ area, 16,340 people in the atolls.

The first round of the vaccination in the Maldives will see the rollout of 100,000 doses of Covishield vaccine, granted to the Maldives by India. Two shots of the vaccine are required to complete the dosage, with 4-12 weeks required between the two shots.

So far, 14% of the Maldivian population has been given the first dose of vaccine against COVID-19.
