Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has revealed a new COVID-19 cluster has been formed in Fuvahmulah, with 7 people testing positive from the new cluster so far.
Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of HEOC Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq said a COVID-19 case which had no links to an existing case in Fuvahmulah was reported on February 20. She said a further 6 people have tested positive for COVID-19 upon testing the contacts of this case.
The spokesperson revealed three regions across the Maldives are currently under monitoring, which includes Addu City, Fuvahmulah and Kolhufushi in Meemu Atoll. She also revealed outbreaks have been reported in two resorts, with 45 cases confirmed in Cocoon Maldives and 37 cases in LUX South Ari Atoll Resort.
COVID-19 cases have been increasing sharply in the Maldives since the beginning of this year. The COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives currently stands at 60.
