Government has a strategic economic plan for the northern atolls: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated the government has a strategic economic plan for the northern atolls of the Maldives.

Speaking at an event held for the people of Haa Dhaalu Atoll, as part of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s campaign for the local council elections, President Solih highlighted some of the major projects planned by the government for the development of Haa Dhaalu Atoll. As such, he highlighted the planned upgrade of Hanimaadhoo International Airport which is expected to commence in July, as well as the development of a domestic airport in Makunudhoo and the establishment of high-speed ferry services to connect all islands in the atoll. He also highlighted some of the projects planned for Kulhudhuffushi, including construction of additional housing units and the development of a synthetic running track.

President Solih said the government has a strategic economic plan for the geographical region of Bodu Thiladhunmathi, which consists of the northernmost atolls of the Maldives. He said the projects planned in the region will help the development of local tourism in the region and create additional sources of revenue for locals.

President Solih has been taking part in MDP’s series of mass meetings held with people from different constituencies. During the meetings, the President has been providing information on new and ongoing development projects in the respective constituencies.
