LGA hands over 3 PSIP projects to local councils

Local Government Authority (LGA) has handed over 3 projects included in the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) to the respective local councils.

The projects handed over to local councils on March 3 were the construction of fish markets in Kelaa, Haa Alifu Atoll and Vaikaradhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and the construction of the Council Secretariat Building in Fulhadhoo, Baa Atoll. The contract signing ceremony for the projects was carried out online due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

As per Article 69 of the Decentralisation Act, PSIP projects which are below USD 324,000 in value must be conducted directly by the respective local councils. The projects handed over to councils on March 3 were all below USD 230,000.

LGA revealed 24 new PSIP projects are set to commence this year. LGA said all but one of the PSIP projects which commenced last year have been completed.
