Project to develop Foakaidhoo Community Centre handed over to island council

Local Government Authority (LGA) hands over the project to develop a community centre in Foakaidhoo, Shaviyani Atoll to the island’s council.

The development of Foakaidhoo Community Centre is funded under the grant aid of the Indian government. The handover agreement was signed by the CEO of LGA Fathimath Afshan Latheef and the President of Foakaidhoo Council Mohamed Rashid.

The project was initially contracted in November 2019. However, the project came to a halt due to COVID-19 and other reasons, eventually leading to the termination of the contract. The cost of the project is USD 336,000.

LGA has been handing over some PSIP projects to local councils, in accordance to Article 69 of the Decentralisation Act.
