The water supply system established in Villingili, Gaafu Alifu Atoll has been completed and handed over to state-owned utilities company, Fenaka Corporation Limited.
The water supply system in Villingili was developed by the joint venture of Angelic International Limited and Iron Exchange Limited, under a contract signed with the government in May 4, 2017. Under this project, a water supply network has been established in Villingili with a 158.6-tonne RO plant and 2 storage tanks holding 19 tonnes each. Furthermore, the water supply network has been connected to households, and a laboratory has been established to conduct tests on water quality. The water supply system will be operated in Villingili by Fenaka Corporation, as per the contract signed on March 17.
The project to establish the water supply system in Villingili was carried out under the loan assistance of OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), and the direct expenditure of the government. The total cost of the project was USD 3.6 million.
Villingili has a land area of 56.5 hectares. The island has a population of 3,600.
