Post from East Asia affected by air travel restrictions

Maldives Post Limited has stated there are some difficulties in retrieving post from East Asian countries due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

The Post Office stated most East Asian countries have still not lifted the travel restrictions placed due to COVID-19, resulting in difficulties in retrieving post from these countries. The Post Office stated the suspension of flights from major airlines such as Singapore Airlines has severely hindered post by air. However, the Post Office said there are fewer problems in retrieving post from Western countries.

Several people have expressed concern over the lengthy delays in receiving items ordered from the popular e-commerce platform AliExpress. Responding to concerns, Maldives Post Limited stated post offices from all countries in the post network are working with restrictions at different levels, leading to delays in posting items. Noting items delivered by online shopping platforms are handled by the post office of the country of origin until it arrives in the destination, the Post Office said the movement of such items can only be tracked by the post office of the country of origin.

The Post Office also noted several online platforms indicate to their customers that their items have been delivered to the destination, even when the items are yet to arrive. The Post Office said it is a strategy such platforms use to promote their businesses, which misleads customers.
