The High Commission of the Maldives in Malaysia has conducted a webinar entitled “Invest in Maldives”, to provide an overview of investment opportunities in the Maldives.
The webinar was held in collaboration with Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Fund Management Corporation and Housing Development Corporation, and co-ordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The government agencies provided an overview of Maldives’ recovery priorities and investment opportunities from their respective sectors.
With participation of over 100 investors based in Malaysia, the webinar provided an important platform to accelerate investment opportunities between Malaysia and the Maldives. The webinar also supports the government’s continued initiatives to preserve an environment oriented towards further trade and investment, provide information to foreign investors, and deepen the connection between relevant government agencies and foreign investors.
As the keynote speaker of the event, Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam highlighted the economic recovery in progress, reflected in particular, the increase in tourist arrivals in the present year and affirmed to the investors of their return on investments from their ventures in Maldives. Also speaking at the event was the High Commissioner of Malaysia to the Maldives Tan Yang Thai, who highlighted the close bilateral ties between the Maldives and Malaysia in the business sectors and international forums such as Colombo Plan, NAM and other multilateral forums.
The opening remarks of the webinar was delivered by High Commissioner of the Maldives to Malaysia Visam Ali. While affirming the Government of Malaysia of the excellent bilateral relations that exist between the Maldives and Malaysia, High Commissioner Visam also acknowledged with appreciation the participation of the line Ministries with support and co-ordination by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in hosting this webinar.
Speaking at the webinar, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel thanked the Keynote Speaker, Minister Mohamed Aslam and stated that his participation reflects the commitment and respect the Government of the Maldives accords to close bilateral ties between our two countries. State Minister Khaleel emphasised that the Maldives and Malaysia enjoy strong and healthy trade and investment relations. He thanked all the participants and presenters for their respective roles at the webinar, and expressed hope that new initiatives will flourish after this introductory webinar.
